A Message to Our Chinese Customers
First of all, we would like to thank Chinese consumers for your tremendous enthusiasm. Since we have launched pricing and opened our on-line design studio for orders in China, we have seen overwhelming interests. You have placed great trust in us, and we are honored. In return, we would like to reassure you our commitment to deliver the best possible customer experience to match our cutting edge electric car. Therefore, we would like to take a moment to explain some unique considerations about the sale of the Model S in China.
To date, it has been our experience that we can only accomplish the superior level of service that we desire if we deal with customers directly. It is important for customers to be aware of our direct sales model, and to be wary of anyone who claims to be a reseller, distributor, or any other agent for our cars – that is not how we operate. In fact, any customer unsure of who is offering a Tesla vehicle for sale should contact Tesla Motors directly at 400 919-0707 or China@teslamotors.com.
In addition, if you happen to purchase a Model S through anyone other than Tesla, your conditions of service may not be as good as they should be. Tesla is in the best position to ensure complete satisfaction with your new car. We build and certify our vehicles to the specific requirements and conditions of the market in which they are introduced. As a result, we must limit the type of warranty work that can be performed for vehicles imported from other markets. Specifically, subject to already established limitations, the warranty for the Model S is valid only in the country in which the car was originally purchased, and where the warranty was initially activated. Of course, we are willing to service a Model S imported from another country where we have a service presence, but the customer must bear all retail costs for any repairs, including, where necessary, any shipments of parts specific to the country where the car was initially bought, as well as associated time and travel expenses for specialized technicians. These conditions ensure that the vehicle is serviced in a manner consistent with the specifications according to which it was originally built. Modifying or altering vehicles built for one market to try to meet the unique requirements of another is not the best way to ensure the optimum Tesla experience.
For these reasons, we also can only repair vehicles consistent with the configuration for which they were originally built, or as specified by the country of certification. For instance, U.S. cars will be repaired and serviced only according to U.S. specifications. We cannot perform, or endorse, any modification to the car to conform to any other country’s standards, regardless of payment.
Finally, we do not guarantee the proper operation of a Model S imported from another country, which extends to aspects such as charging and connectivity. Again, this is because each Model S is designed specifically for the market for which that vehicle was built. To remove any doubt, just keep this in mind: The only legitimate vendor of a Model S is Tesla Motors. If you encounter any different sales scenario, please let us know.
